The Tale of the Twin Flames and the Balance of Breath
(A companion myth to the Five Currents)
Before the world had form, there were two lights adrift in the Void the Moon Empress, whose gaze saw into the hidden, and the Sun Lord, whose laughter gave birth to motion.
They circled one another without touching, for neither shadow nor radiance could yet find shape.
The Empress whispered, “Let there be stillness that all may be known.”
The Lord replied, “Let there be motion that all may become.”
And in their union of breath stillness met movement and the first pulse of the world began.
From that breath, five dragons emerged, each carrying a fragment of the blended light:
• The Water Dragon, born from her tears and his reflection, the keeper of emotion.
• The Earth Dragon, from her patience and his steadfast will, keeper of form.
• The Fire Dragon, from her spark and his blaze, keeper of transformation.
• The Air Dragon, from her sigh and his voice, keeper of knowing.
• And unseen among them, the Fifth Dragon, woven of their love itself , the breath between breaths. The keeper of soul.
The dragons descended to shape the world, weaving currents of Yin and Yang through river, mountain, flame, and wind.
When they flowed together, harmony reigned. The night listened to the day, and the day bowed to the night.
But when humankind arose, they learned to name light and dark as opposites.
They sought to master the dragons , to hold fire without water, to build earth without air.
Thus began the great forgetting, the invention of Time, so that balance could be delayed and power divided.
Seeing this, the Moon Empress wept silver tears into the Lake of Longue.
The Sun Lord burned with grief and hid his face behind the mountains.
Only the Fifth Dragon remained awake, whispering to the human soul.
“Balance is not the end of struggle, but the art of breathing through it.”
When a person learns to honor both stillness and motion, they return to the First Breath the unity of Yin and Yang and the Fifth Current awakens once more within them.
Then the Empress and the Lord smile upon the world again, and the dragons sing the song that once formed the stars.
