People my age (sixties baby) have an interesting perspective of time .

When I was a boy my father worked full time and my mother a few hrs a week to help out . There was five kids me being the middle child.

Up until my teen years we had a black and white tv. When I was 8 I watched the moon landing show on that little box . Even at that age I thought it was amazing that we had instant tv footage and voice communication from the moon . I did wonder how they got one of those massive tv cameras they had in those days inside that little lander along with the moon buggy and the two astronauts and how the phone worked . Still do .

My parents were Catholics so much of their life revolved around kids , work and their church community.

Dad also had Saturday avo at the RSL playing snooker and the GeeGee”s .

As kids we felt quite safe to wander up to the park , swimming pool or to a friends place . Come home before sunset . I doubt there was less sociopaths and pedo”s around . We just didn’t know about them .

I remember when I was 14 or 15 I came home after spending the day with mates at Bondi , sore as hell with sunburn and blue bottle sting on my thigh , dad had bought a colour tv . The world of Disney and shows like mash changed the way everything worked in the house Evening meals now accompanied by some new show .

I grew up with Daniel Boone , lost in space , mash , my favourite Martian , I spy, man from uncle , get smart and a host of other stories and characters.

Between the tv and reading sci-fi I don’t know how I had time to grow up . Maybe I didn’t until after I had kids .

In my lifetime we as a world has lived through the Cold War , Vietnam , both gulf wars , 9/11 Afghanistan and now the Ukraine and Palestine debacles. The same KM string pullers up to their dirty tricks and deals .

In my working life I saw the advent of pagers , then mobile phones which doubled down on the work expected in a day . Computers and iPhones which connects you to the world and of course no where to hide .

We haven’t, that we know of anyway . managed the Jetsons hi tech world . Maybe I will still see it before I”m finished here .

My kids and now my grandkids know only this world of gaming fast paced connected and mind control media . I am glad I grew up to see the transition , I appreciate the simplicity of life back before all this technology which was supposed to improve life has consumed it.

What the next twenty years brings with the conversion of control to AI who knows , hopefully the movies haven’t got it right . Nobody wants to see Arnie come back .
